Knitting pattern books are full of cliches. So many of them seem to be made by the same person and all the items are made for the same type of girl. There’s little to no room for changes. Muteable Mittens is a collection of knit gloves, and the patterns to create them, that are fully customizable. The collection is made up of a kit of parts that allows for creativity and personalization and it puts not only the product, but the process behind it within reach.
Also shown are pictures from a gallery display of the project. The exhibition included the finalized publications as well as the final knitted projects that were knit from the patterns in the book and photorgraphed for the publication. Additionally, there was a portion of the wall covered with magnetic paint with the different pattern pieces as magnets which encouraged visitors to mix and match and visually create their own design.
